Women’s Health

Helping women thrive at every stage of life

Major milestones in mature women’s health

In 2022, we embarked on an unprecedented $50-million campaign to establish a world-leading Centre for Mature Women’s Health. Our vision? To build a hub for research and education for women’s health and set a new global standard in women’s health care at all stages of life.

Under Dr. Wendy Wolfman’s leadership, the Centre’s team has expanded in the last year, now including a full-time gynaecologist, nurse practitioner and social worker in the Premature Ovarian Insufficiency Clinic, with Drs. Marie Christakis and Lindsay Shirreff leading the way to an integrated approach to clinical care for women and breaking down information barriers for patients and their physicians. The Centre is training the next generation of experts — three new fellows in mature women’s health and menopause — and contributing to a growing literature of research, such as hormone replacement therapy (HRT) use in women over 65.

Thanks to tremendous support from more than 3,000 donors and a transformational investment from The Hilary and Galen Weston Foundation and Janice and Earle O’Born, our vision is becoming a reality.

The renamed Weston and O’Born Centre for Mature Women’s Health will push the boundaries of knowledge and discovery across multi-disciplinary areas of mature women’s health care.

As we build on this incredible momentum, we look forward to exploring new opportunities to understand and address the gaps within women’s health education and research in order to give women the care they deserve today.

"Just over two years ago we launched an unprecedented effort to raise funds for a new centre focused on mature women's health,” says Maxine Granovsky Gluskin, Immediate Past Chair of Sinai Health Foundation’s Board of Directors. “This has been an incredibly meaningful campaign — one that has resonated so deeply with women everywhere. The Weston and O’Born Centre for Mature Women’s Health will accelerate our efforts on all fronts and will be a symbol for the power of women-led philanthropy across Canada and beyond."

The Weston and O’Born Centre for Mature Women’s Health builds upon the legacy of the Frances Bloomberg Centre for Women’s and Infants’ Health at Mount Sinai Hospital, Canada’s largest academic institution for women’s health.
