Milestones measured by impact
Milestones allow us to celebrate successes and achievements. They also provide us with the opportunity to mark progress and to be grateful for what we have accomplished and the impact we have made. This past year, we were able to come together to honour Mount Sinai Hospital’s centennial with the Gala of the Century, a magical evening that brought together our vibrant community of donors, volunteers, hospital staff and partners. It was an event that reminded us of our rich history and our belief that we are here in service of others — a belief that has served to guide us for 100 years and continues to guide us today.
In 2025, we will mark two more significant milestones in our history.
First, a decade of Sinai Health, our 10-year journey as Canada’s leading integrated health system. By combining our resources, expertise and a shared vision for Mount Sinai Hospital, Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital (then Bridgepoint Active Healthcare), the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute (LTRI), and system partner Circle of Care, we have been able to do more for the communities we serve by leveraging our collective strengths.
When we look back on the past 10 years, we are filled with immense pride for all that our founding Hospitals and our System continue to achieve. Our leadership throughout the COVID-19 pandemic showcased the power of care, research and dedicated commitment, as well as the resilience and impact of our people. Through Renew Sinai 3A, we completed the largest and most ambitious redevelopment in Mount Sinai’s history, transforming key areas for patients undergoing life-saving surgery, emergency care and cancer treatment. By redefining our vision for research at Sinai Health, we are creating an environment to fuel greater collaboration and impact from discovery, translational and clinical research resulting in leading-edge findings and clinical trials and continue to put our scientists on the world stage.
This year, Sinai Health Foundation will also celebrate its 50th anniversary and the profound impact it has had on Sinai Health and the communities we serve. For half a century, Sinai Health Foundation has been the bridge between generosity and innovation — a lifeline that has fuelled groundbreaking research, expanded clinical programs, transformed spaces, modernized equipment and technology, and redefined what’s possible.
From the very beginning, our donors, partners, and supporters have shared a belief: that bringing community together fuels transformative care, and that impact isn’t measured in years, but in lives changed.
Throughout this report, you will see shining examples of how philanthropy has supported life-changing care, from the creation of a first-of-its-kind Centre that will give women the care they deserve through every stage of life, to supporting a new fleet of incubators for our most fragile patients, to supporting our researchers who are helping to tackle today’s most difficult health challenges, including diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease and cancer.
None of these incredible achievements over the past 100 years would have been possible without the passion and drive of our Sinai Health community. Behind every moment of impact is a team of dedicated donors and the employees, physicians, scientists, learners and volunteers whom their generosity supports. This partnership means everything and allows us to reach for new heights together.
As we continue to honour our roots, we look toward a bold and exciting vision for tomorrow. With our community by our side, the best is yet to come.

With profound and heartfelt gratitude, we thank Peter Cohen for his service as Chair of Sinai Health’s Board of Directors. Peter was an incredible champion for our people and exercised the ideal blend of professionalism, compassion and creativity to get us through a challenging four years. In the throes of a global pandemic and a complicated and robust redevelopment project, Peter was the leader we needed.
Always a committed volunteer, Peter served on the Board for many decades and chaired several committees which provided him with a thorough training ground for his role as Chair. Although his tenure was atypical, through his unique leadership style, we were able to make organizational changes and be creative in our governance, allowing us to lead and shine throughout the pandemic.
Peter’s experience in governance and redevelopment also made him a great leader and partner during Renew Sinai Phase 3A, the most complicated and ambitious phase of our Mount Sinai Hospital redevelopment. This included completely renovating our Emergency Department, Operating Suites, Intensive Care Unit and Cancer Care Clinic among others. Peter was right by our side on the most challenging days and there to celebrate the wins as well.
During his tenure, we honoured the centennial of Mount Sinai Hospital, 100 years of life-changing care and discovery that brought our community together. Mount Sinai’s origin story and roots are deeply meaningful to Peter, and he rallied the community around this milestone through the Gala of the Century, Mount Sinai 100 Chairs and other initiatives to propel us into the next 100 years.
As Chair, Peter showed us every day his unwavering commitment to Sinai Health and its people and community, and we are grateful for his continued dedication and support.
