Maria and her husband received unexpected news during their first ultrasound—they were expecting quintuplets. Referred to the OFC for high-risk pregnancy care, Maria underwent detailed anatomy assessments to monitor the health and development of each baby. With the expertise of a multidisciplinary team, a meticulous care plan was devised for Maria's delivery at Mount Sinai Hospital. It would be only the second delivery of quintuplets at the hospital after award-winning obstetrician Dr. Paul Bernstein delivered the first set of quintuplets 30 years prior.

Despite the challenges associated with carrying multiples, Maria felt reassured by her care team and remained relatively comfortable throughout her pregnancy. At 29 weeks, she was admitted to the hospital and delivered five healthy babies two weeks later on August 3, 2023. After spending their first weeks in Mount Sinai’s NICU, the babies were later transferred to a NICU closer to home. Today, the quintuplets are thriving at home, keeping their parents busy and joyful every day.
